North Brunswick Township Police Department with a warning regarding a recent diversion burglary incident
This week, North Brunswick Patrol Units along with members of the Detective Bureau responded to the area of Cranbury Cross Road for a residential diversion burglary that occurred around 430pm. It has been reported that 2 males knocked on the door, advising the homeowner they were from the “water company” and were there to check a leak.
Once inside the home, the suspects advised the homeowner to go downstairs and bang on the pipes.
Unfortunately, the homeowner came back up the stairs to find his home ransacked.
If you happened to receive a knock on your door from the “water company”, our Detectives would like to hear from you.
Please call (732) 247-0922, x331
Please be mindful when answering the door to individuals that you are NOT expecting.
If you have any doubt as to their legitimacy, call us anytime, we are here 24-7-365, at (732) 545-3200.
We are aware of the ongoing water meter replacement program going on within the Township, via In-Line Services. Those employees providing that service will respond to the residences by appointment only, accompanied by the proper credentials.
In-Line Services is completing the replacement of meters within the Township, but only goes to a home where they have made an appointment, so there would not be any cold calling. Also, In Line Services' installers will be dressed in company uniforms, have a photo ID and will arrive in white, permanently lettered and numbered Chevrolet or GMC service work vans.
In addition to this, we have a team of Township employees who are going door-to-door on SATURDAYS reminding and encouraging residents to make their appointments either face-to-face or leaving a door hanger. These Township employees will arrive in township vehicles along with their proper credentials.
Also, all American Water employees will have their ID card with their photo and name to show the customer.
