New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced the beginning of a pavement preservation project on Route 171/Georges Road between Route 130 and Lincoln Avenue in North Brunswick, Middlesex County.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 24 until 3 p.m. the same day, and continuing daily, Monday through Friday for approximately four weeks, NJDOT’s contractor, Trap Rock Industries is scheduled to close lanes and shoulders at five intersections along Route 171/Georges Road. Concrete and electrical work will begin at the intersection of Route 171/Georges Road and Cranbury Cross Road. The work is necessary to upgrade traffic signal heads and construct ADA pedestrian ramps and push-button signal controls.

Upon completion of the daytime electrical work, road repairs, curb and guiderail work, resurfacing will begin requiring overnight lane, shoulder, and ramp closures. NJDOT will provide more information in advance of any closures.

The $2.7 million state-funded project will repair, preserve and extend the pavement life, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists on approximately 2.7 miles of Route 171/Georges Road in North Brunswick, Middlesex County. The work will include milling and paving, concrete repair and upgrading five pedestrian intersections to meet current ADA requirements.

Construction will be coordinated with the Rutgers University event schedule. There will be no lane closures permitted two hours prior, during and two hours after an event at Rutgers High Point Solutions Stadium, and for events with an expected attendance of 5,000 or more at the Rutgers Athletic Center. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2021.

Variable Message Signs are being used to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. NJDOT will provide more information before any lane closures are scheduled.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
