Councilwoman Cathy Nicola
Councilwoman Cathy Nicola is a lifelong resident of North Brunswick. She is the daughter of Agnes and the late former Mayor of North Brunswick Charles E. Nicola. She is a graduate of North Brunswick Township High School and attended Upsala College and Middlesex County College.
Councilwoman Nicola began her career with Middlesex County in the Cultural and Heritage Commission working as an assistant editor and project restoration supervisor. She was later promoted to the Housing and Community Development Department as grant administrator, from where she retired in 1999.
Prior to being elected to the Council in 2004, and re-Elected in 2007, 2012 Cathy volunteered her time to various municipal, county, human services and charitable organizations. Some of these include: North Brunswick Domestic Violence Response Team, North Brunswick Pop Warner Cheerleading, North Brunswick Little League Baseball Association, North Brunswick Democratic Organization, North Brunswick Humane Association, North Brunswick Board of Ethics, North Brunswick Environmental Committee, North Brunswick Youth Council, North Brunswick Italian-American Club, Middlesex County Democratic Organization, Middlesex County Department of Human Services, Veterans Stand Down, Middlesex County Very Special Arts of New Jersey, Monmouth Park Charity Ball Organizational Committee, Collier School Gala Committee, ASPCA, Animal Defense League, New York Racing Association, New Jersey Breeders Association and the Re-Run Horse Rescue Organization.
Cathy has also donated her time to teach CCD at Our Lady of Peace Church where she is a parishioner.
As Councilwoman and prior Council President, Cathy has worked with the Mayor and Council to improve the quality of life for all residents. She has worked to implement an anonymous Tip-Line to report suspicious gang activity, a soil importation ordinance to prevent development on contaminated soil, a house party ordinance to help prevent underage drinking, and has served on budget review committees to ensure fiscal responsibility within the Township.
Cathy currently serves as Council liaison to the Municipal Alliance Committee and the Traffic Safety Committee. She enjoys her position and wholeheartedly dedicates herself for the purpose of keeping North Brunswick a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.
