Community Dispute Resolution Program

This program utilizes trained volunteers from Middlesex County to help resolve disputes that involve people in ongoing relationships such as neighbors, friends, relatives and co-workers.

Mediation is a structured and confidential form of negotiation that provides a convenient, fair, and effective way to resolve disputes. Mediators are concerned members of the community who have volunteered their time to provide an effective and timely method for settling disputes. All mediators are approved by the New Jersey Superior Court and are required to complete a training course and to participate in ongoing educational activities. Mediation is free.

Mediation is used for the less serious types of disputes that would be heard in Municipal Court, such as:

  • Simple Assaults
  • Harassment
  • Disturbances
  • Trespassing
  • Landlord/Tenant Disputes
  • Noise Complaints
  • Neighbor Dispute
  • Merchant/Customer Disputes
  • Animal Complaints
  • Property Disputes
  • Annoying Phone Calls

If a matter is not settled or if any provision of a settlement is subsequently broken, the complaint will return to Municipal Court for further action.
